TOP FAMILIES REPRESENTED IN CAMARGUE, CHEVELEY DRAFTS

A variety of proven stallions and high-class families dominate Camargue Stud’s draft for the 2023 National Yearling Sale.

Camargue will be offering yearlings sired by such successful stallions as Master Of My Fate, Querari and What A Winter, as well as by the ill-fated Lancaster Bomber, who has made such an impressive start with his first two-year-olds this season.

The farm’s Brett van Laun is particularly keen on the What A Winter colt (Lot 358) out of Silvano’s Off To Stud Handicap winning daughter Magic Penny, and calls this well bred yearling a “a definite standout”.

Promising two-year-old American Graffiti, winner of the Listed Storm Bird Stakes this season, has a Querari half-sister (Lot 180) on offer, of whom Brett says is a “quality filly who should attract a lot of attention.

He also likes the Captain Of All filly (Lot 285) out of Listed Spook Express Handicap winner Forest Express, describing her as “an absolute belter”.

The aforementioned draft can be viewed from Blocks E and F at the TBA Complex in Germiston.

Cheveley Stud, whose alumni include some of the greatest champions to have graced the South African turf in recent years, are no strangers to enjoying success at the National Yearling Sale.

From selling subsequent Horse Of The Year, and now Cheveley sire, Legislate at the 2012 National Sale, to consigning Legislate’s full-brother for R2 200 000 at the 2019 sale, Cheveley have an impressive record at South Africa’s premier thoroughbred auction.

Cheveley’s Vaughan Koster is pleased with his string for this year’s National Sale and says of his draft:

Lot 77 Siena’s Star: f Futura – Siena’s Star
Lovely, tall, scopy Futura filly with an athletic action. Her family is very current with Infinite Wonder winning the Listed Drum Star Handicap recently and Without Question running 3rd in the G1 Splashout Cape Derby.

Lot 87 Skylar Lane: f Gimmethegreenlight – Skylar Lane
Very attractive, high quality Gimmethegreenlight filly. Well related and should be on all breeders lists. Lots to like about her.

Lot 373 Miss Moneybags c Lancaster Bomber – Miss Moneybags
A nicely put together Lancaster Bomber colt. Good size, clean legged, racy individual.

Lot 392 Netsuke c Lancaster Bomber – Netsuke
Strong Lancaster Bomber colt that covers ground. Full brother to Rascova who won the Summer Juvenile Stakes (Listed) during the Cape season.

This quality draft can be found in Block B at the TBA Complex in Germiston.
