Normandy Stud, the breeders of numerous top-class horses over the years including reigning champion South African sprinter Rio Querari, will be offering some very well bred lots at this year’s Cape Yearling Sale.
Their Cape Sale draft consists of yearlings by such promising and proven sires as Erupt, Gimmethegreenlight, Horizon, Potala Palace and Rio Querari’s sire Querari.
The latter, a consistent supplier of talented stakes horses, is the sire of a colt (Lot 132) out of Winter Oaks heroine Cymbeline, and this is the same family as champion National Bay and current high-class three-year-old Norton Sound.
South Africa’s reigning champion sire Gimmethegreenlight is doubly represented here -the son of More Than Ready has a a filly (Lot 49) whose twice winning dam is bred on very similar lines to the Normandy bred champion Mother Russia.
Potala Palace, whose son Katak is doing so well in Singapore, has a filly on offer here. The sire of G1 winning racemare Singforafa is responsible for a filly (Lot 38) bred on the same cross as Katak. The filly in question is out of a four time winning half-sister to triple graded stakes winner Depardieu, and her dam is bred on similar lines to that wonderful champion Mother Russia.
Exciting young sire Erupt, already off the mark with his first two-year-olds, is another classy stallion represented in Normandy’s Cape draft. The son of Dubawi is the sire of a filly (Lot 74) out of Silvano’s high-class daughter Tahini, and this filly hails from the same female line as champion fillies Consensual, Just Sensual and Tatler.
Another exciting sire prospect represented in this consignment is Dynasty’s beautifully bred son Horizon. The latter, whose dam is a full-sister to multiple champion sire Silvano, is sire of a filly (Lot 10) who hails from the same female line as such Normandy bred standouts as Bravura and Equus Champions Mother Russia and Winter Solstice.
Soetendal Estate is one of South Africa’s top backing, spelling and boarding farms, and they will be offering a very well bred colt at this year’s Cape Yearling Sale.
William’s Legacy (Lot 116), a son of the hugely promising young sire William Longsword, is a colt out of a mare by top sire Dynasty.
This colt, whose granddam is a twice winning half-sister to G3 Matchem Stakes winner Joshua’s Dream and who is also closely related to multiple G1 winner Ebony Flyer, hails from the immediate family of champion Captain’s Lover (sired, like William Longsword, by Captain Al), as well as recent G3 Cape Racing Politician Stakes victor Universal and the latter’s champion half-brother Vardy.
The 2022 Cape Yearling Sale is scheduled to take place at Kenilworth racecourse on February 27th, and the catalogue for the sale can be viewed online at www.bsa.co.za
