Drakenstein Stud, one of South Africa’s top stud farms and breeders of recent G1 winners Jet Dark and Rain In Holland, will be bringing a classy draft to the 2021 August Two Year Old Sale.
Their consignment consists of yearlings sired by all of Duke Of Marmalade, Elusive Fort, Futura, Philanthropist,Trippi, Twice Over, Var, and William Longsword and includes two-year-olds from some of the finest famillies in the stud book.
Jet Dark’s champion sire Trippi is the sire of a three-parts brother (Lot 220) to the Trippi sired G1 SA Classic winner Lobo’s Legend, while the very promising Cape Guineas winner William Longsword’s sole offering is Dark William (Lot 261), a colt whose five time winning dam is a half-sister to Trippi’s five time G1 winning daughter Inara.
The now pensioned Var, whose progeny include the likes of Vardy and Variety Club, is the sire of Race Against Time (Lot 200), a full-brother to G2 SA Nursery winner William The Silent, while Horse Of The Year Futura is represented here by Battleground (Lot 245), a half-brother to Listed Jamaica Handicap winner Princess Irene.
Yet another choicely bred two-year-old here is Breeze Over (Lot 61), a colt by Twice Over out of a Giant’s Causeway half-sister to Victress Stakes heroine Fresnaye.
Drakenstein’s resident sire Duke Of Marmalade, whose progeny include recent G1 Thekwini Stakes winner Rain In Holland, has three lots on offer. They include She’s Not Easy (Lot 151) a filly out of the top-class Var mare Schiffer, and Duchess Of Gold (Lot 297). The latter is a filly whose dam is a three-parts sister to G1 Spinaway Stakes winner R Heat Lightning and this is one of the best families in the American studbook.
The late Philanthropist, whose progeny include the top-class Golden Ducat among others, has two lots in this draft. Meghans Dream (Lot 117) is a filly whose dam is a half-sister to the talented Jabulani Jive, while Always Better (Lot 263) is a colt whose dam Better Together is a What A Winter half-sister to the very speedy dual G3 winner True To Life.
Drakenstein will also be offering, as agent, Kill Shot (Lot 87), an Elusive Fort filly, bred on similar lines to July winner Hunting Tower, whose dam is a half-sister to Christmas Handicap runner up Kazaar.
