Back in 2019, Moutonshoek sold a Captain Al filly, named Captain’s Ransom, for R225 000 at the National Yearling Sale. The bay was an exceptional performer, with Captain’s Ransom named Horse Of The Year, Equus Champion Older Filly/Mare and Equus Champion Sprinter in 2021-2022. The champion won 13 of 19 starts, with Captain’s Ransom wracking up six G1 victories in her career, including a slashing win over male rivals in the 2022 G1 Mercury Sprint.
Moutonshoek, breeders of Captain’s Ransom, will be bringing a small but quality draft to this year’s National Yearling Sale, and Dr Bennie Van Der Merwe is confident that buyers will like what they see! All of Moutonshoek’s yearlings on offer were sired by the farm’s exciting and successful stallion The United States, and Bennie is delighted by his resident sire’s ongoing success. He said,”Starting with The United States’s results on the track it was particularly pleasing to see Without Question return to form. Much was made of the “shock result” of the 2024 G1 World Sports Betting Cape Town Met but the result was no fluke! Double Superlative was the best of his generation, Rascallion is a proven G1 performer and Without Question placed in 2 G1`s as a 3YO. Fair to say that The United States upgrades his mares.
We`re particularly excited about lots 33 and 242 because the The United States/Danehill Dancer cross is patently working here in South Africa. There are three such runners on the tracks in SA and all three have merit ratings> 90! Khaya’s Hope, United Council and Montelena.
Lot 33 Moonslate f The United States -Acquavella
She is a strapping filly and a half sister to G1 performer Dawn Calling.
Lot 242 East India c The United States -Miss Khaya
He is a full brother to multiple stakes winner Khaya’s Hope and a beautifully balanced, scopey individual to boot!
Lot 327 Tanacross f The United States-She’s So Cold
She is a racy The United States daughter from the blue hen She`s So Cold (ARG) – an own sister to the spectacular debut winner Banff. (The latter has changed hands for substantial money)
Lot 64 Nebraska Breeze f The United States -Bize
She is a dead ringer for her dam “beautiful” Bize – the Oaks Trial winner.
Lot 163 Jaffa c The United States -Green Top
He is a bit immature but an astute horse-person will see that he is very well put together and merely needs some time.
Lot 315 Operative c The United States -Secret Alley
He is a first foal out of the half sister to G1 winner Undercover Agent – a very speedy looking strong individual.
Moutonshoek’s draft can be found in Block E at the TBA Complex in Germiston.
