Vercingetorix. Querari. What A Winter. These are a few of the stallions represented in Big Sky Ranch’s draft for the 2025 National Yearling Sale.
Their draft also includes yearlings sired by the much missed New Predator, as well as by the likes of Danon Platina, Elusive Fort and Triple Crown winner Malmoos.
Champion sire elect Vercingetorix is represented in Big Sky’s draft by a half-brother (Lot 290) to Listed Secretariat Stakes winner Bon Vivant as well as Saturday’s highly regarded winner Tokyo Medaglia.
This colt’s dam Society Pages, a daughter of outstanding stallion Medaglia D’Oro, is a half-sister to the stakes placed Race Me Home, and her dam is multiple US G1 winner Society Selection.
Vercingetorix’s stablemate Querari, South Africa’s Leading Sire of 2YOs for 2024-2025, has five lots on sale. His offering includes Moonshine Bay (Lot 52), a filly out of Listed Kenilworth Filllies Nursery/Irridescence Stakes heroine Coral Bay, and Vivalto (Lot 198). The latter, a filly from one of the best families in the studbook, is a full-sister to Listed Christmas Handicap runner up Kazaar and half-sister to Listed Zimbabwe Derby/Oaks victress Coffeeberry.
Classy racemare Rio’s Winter, who ran second in both the G2 Gauteng Fillies Guineas and G3 Sycamore Sprint, has a Elusive Fort filly on offer, while Efistfull, a twice winning half-sister to champion Hermoso Mundo, is responsible for a Visionaire colt (Lot 80).
Regally bred Triple Crown winner Malmoos’s first yearlings have been well received, and the son of Captain Al’s two lots on offer include a half-brother (Lot 185) to UAE 1000 Guineas runner up Mensoora, with this colt’s dam Mansoor being a Giant’s Causeway half-sister to G1 Brisbane Cup winner Danestorm.
Other appealing sorts to be found here include the Danon Platina filly (Lot 8) whose granddam is a half-sister to G1 winners Al Nitak and The Sheik, and Bathurst (Lot 310), a New Predator filly whose third dam is the mighty National Colour.
