TOP SIRES TO STAR FOR BIRCH BROS

The Birch Bros will be offering another quality string at the 2024 KZN Yearling Sale. Not only is resident sire Red Ray well represented in this draft, but this consignment also includes yearlings sired by such star stallions as Gimmethegreenlight and Rafeef.

Reigning champion sire Gimmethegreenlight, whose progeny include this season’s G1 winners Gimme A Nother, Green With Envy, Lucky Lad, and Proceed to name a few, is represented here by a very well bred filly (Lot 101). From a world class family, this filly is out of G3 Strelitzia Stakes winner Inverroche, and her numerous high-class relatives include G1 Avontuur Estate Cape Fillies Guineas winner Field Flower, and the latter’s high-class son, and G1 Sun Met runner up, Last Winter.

Rafeef is another stallion to have enjoyed an excellent season in 2023-2024, and that G1 Computaform Sprint winner has three lots on offer here. Blonde Vision, a stakes placed daughter of Legally Blonde, has a Rafeef filly (Lot 30) on sale, as does the winning Fort Wood mare Redberry Wood (Lot167). The latter is out of a three time winning own-sister to G1 winners Redberry Lane and Solo Traveller as well as to the dam of champion Good Traveller. The inform Rafeef is also represented in this draft by a colt (Lot 163) whose third dam is the magnificent producer Mystic Spring.

Birch Bros’ resident stallion Red Ray, sire of G1 WSB SA Classic winner Red Saxon and multiple graded stakes winner Alula’s Star among others, has some very well bred yearlings on offer. They include a filly (Lot 79) whose granddam, like Red Ray himself, is a Western Winter sired G1 winner, a filly (Lot 148) whose dam is a half-sister to champion sire and G1 Cape Guineas winner Captain Al, and a colt (Lot 156) whose granddam is a full-sister to the dam of Met winning champion Smart Call.

Vogel Vlei Stud’s draft can be found in Blocks F and G at the Suncoast Casino in Durban.
