These are just a few of the top-class thoroughbreds sold by Varsfontein Stud at the National Sale in recent times, and this tally looks sure to increase this year.

Varsfontein will be offering a top-class draft at the National Yearling Sale, with this string made up of yearlings sired by resident sires Gimmethegreenlight, Master Of My Fate and Erik The Red, as well as by Hawwaam, Malmoos and Vercingetorix.

Varsfontein have a very strong line up of colts at the sale, and their highlights include the following:

Lot 28: Aquae Calidae (Vercingetorix- Bela-Bela colt):
Ultimate superiority on pedigree, we are very excited to present this caliber colt at auction. He is medium size with a lovely well-made, balanced frame. He has a deep girth and a good shoulder and hindquarter. He has a lovely temperament and is just a pleasure to look at.

Lot 40: Gimmethatworldcup (Gimmetheegreenlight -Captive Lady colt):
This colt was born during the 2023 Rugby World Cup Final match, hence his name. Hopefully, he will bring his new owners the same luck which the Bokke brought SA in that final! He is a medium to good size colt with a lovely hindleg and strong hindquarter. He is well made and is an eye-catching, handsome individual.

Lot 70: Masterofphotografy (Master Of My Fate -Different Light colt):
This stand-out colt is a good size with good bone and a very strong build. He is deep through the girth with a powerful hindquarter. He is a masculine, strong colt that will certainly draw attention.

Lot 101: Brave Eagle (Master Of My Fate- Fearless Eagle colt):
He is a big, tall, leggy colt with good rein and stands over ground. He carries himself with presence and is a classic looking colt. Definitely this mare’s best foal to date.

Lot 102: High Fidelity (Vercingetorix-Fidelity colt):
He is a good size with a very nice shoulder, strong forearm, deep girth and good bone. Being a December foal, this colt has come on leaps and bounds with the prep and has done incredibly well. He has developed into a lovely, imposing individual but we are certain there is even more potential to come. Bred in the purple but definitely carries more Captain Al influence from the dam’s side.

Lot 128: Caravantovaccares (Erik The Red-Gypsy Madonna colt):
He is a good size with a very strong build, a lovely shoulder and hindquarter with good scope. He has good bone and strong feet. Overall a very nice, tough looking colt. From a great family and the dam has already produced Questor and My Best Shot.

Lot 201: West Monroe (Master Of My Fate- Monroe Spring colt):
Lot 201 kicks off day 2 in style. He is medium to good size, covers ground with good rein and is well balanced. He is a classy, attractive colt with uncanny similarity to his sire, Master Of My Fate, at the same age. His dam, Monroe Spring, was the last produce of the matriarch Mystic Spring. Monroe Spring is proving to be a very exciting broodmare, producing well above herself physically.

Lot 214: In My Book (Gimmegreenlight- On My Mind colt):
Out of one of Varsfontein’s young, imported mares, he is a full brother to ON MY HONOUR. He is a strong, well-muscled colt that is a good size. He has a strong neck, lovely shoulder and hindquarter and good bone. He is a good looking, very nice colt with an outstanding walk.

Lot 333: Special Envoy (Master Of My Fate -Victorian Secret colt):
Bred on the same cross as lot 201, this colt is a full brother to Master Of Illusion and a half-brother to Golden Sickle. He is a good size, leggy colt with good rein and scope. He will fill out into an impressive horse in time and is oozing potential.

Lot 335: Will On Watch (Erik The Red – Vision On Ice colt):
He is a medium size colt, has a lovely hindquarter and a well topped, well balanced frame with a good walk. He has beautiful quality for an Erik The Red and is an attractive colt. A very nice first foal from an exciting family.
