VARSFONTEIN STUD’S CLASSY CAPE SALE DRAFT SET TO IMPRESS

Varsfontein Stud, one of South Africa’s leading producers of high-class racehorses in the past few decades, will be offering a top-class draft at this year’s Cape Yearling Sale.

The farm, whose recent Cape Sale graduates include such notable graded stakes winners as Doosra, Final Judgement, Green Pepper, and Hack Green, will be offering yearlings by such exciting prospects as Flower Alley, Futura, Gimmethegreenlight, Global View, Ideal World, What A Winter, William Longsword and their own top-class resident sire Master Of My Fate at this year’s auction.

Varsfontein’s sire sensation Gimmethegreenlight has a single lot in this draft –I Did It My Way (Lot 184) is a colt whose dam is a daughter of Italian G3 winner Alabaq, with the latter, in turn, being a daughter of champion sire Riverman and legendary racemare Salsabil.

Multiple champion sprinter What A Winter is the sire of Winter Garden (Lot 146), a filly whose dam is a three-parts sister to triple G1 winner Captain America, while Cape Guineas winner William Longsword’s sole representative here is Ashanti Sword (Lot 151), a filly out of a half-sister to G2 Gold Circle Derby winner Winter Weather.

Resident sire Master Of My Fate, whose progeny include champion Tempting Fate and G1 Premiers Champion Stakes victress Sentbydestiny, has four lots in Varsfontein’s Cape Sale draft. Miss Marguerite (Lot 35) is a filly out of a full-sister to Java Handicap winner Fulcrum, with her dam also a three-parts sister to champion Captain’s Lover, while the cleverly named Popping Crease (Lot 75) is a colt out of the Jallad sired G3 Yellowwood Hcp runner up Quick Single.

Others by Master Of My Fate in this draft include Question Master (Lot 175), a colt whose stakes placed dam won seven times up to 1950 metres, and Echo Of Life (Lot185). The latter, a half or full sister to 3 winners, is out of a half-sister to Equus Champion Ethereal Lady and the latter’s G1 winning full-brother Amberpondo.

Global View made a cracking start with his first two-year-olds last season, and that son of Galileo is responsible for Dream Spinner (Lot 96), a half-sister to 11 winners, notably the G1 placed two-year-olds Felix The Cat and M L Jet.

Consistently successful sire Ideal World has a trio of yearlings on offer including Hey Siri (Lot 140), a filly out of Syringa Handicap heroine Alexa, and Marshall Field (Lot 147), a colt whose dam is a winning own sister to G1 SA Fillies Classic victress Athina.

Other attractive lots in this draft include Jack In The Pulpit (Lot 187), a Flower Alley colt out of a half-sister to Italian classic winner Evading Tempete, Summer Night City (Lot 11), a full-sister to G3 Diana Stakes heroine Double Whammy, and Kommetjie (Lot 13), a filly by Judpot out of Choisir’s high-class daughter Goldie Coast.
