WAR OF ATHENA ROMPS TO WOOLAVINGTON 2000 WIN

Star three-year-old filly, and Bloodstock South Africa graduate, War Of Athena once again showed her class when she romped home to a facile victory in Saturday’s G1 Woolavington 2000 (2000m) at Hollywoodbets Greyville.

In the process, the star three-year-old, who was emulating last season’s Triple Tiara Summer Pudding by landing Woolavington 2000, made it six wins on the bounce, and provided jockey Muzi Yeni with his third win on Saturday’s card.

Sent off red hot favourite for Saturday’s 2000m contest, War Of Athena tracked her front running stable mate, and fellow Act Of War filly, Only The Brave, as the latter set a pedestrian pace up front. When Muzi Yeni asked his filly the question, the Summerhill Stud bred star hit the front 200m out and powered clear to win as she liked by over two lengths.

Trained by Paul Matchett, the Roy Wentzel and Dr Rosemary Waterman-Wentzel owned filly has now won nine of her 15 starts for earnings of R1 713 800.

War Of Athena, a brilliant winner of this season’s Wilgerbosdrift Triple Tiara, was a R30 000 buy from the 2019 Ready To Run Sale.

Out of the Requiem mare Qaphela, War Of Athena hails from the first crop of Dynasty’s Cape Guineas winning son Act Of War.

The latter is well represented on this year’s KZN Yearling Sale, where Act Of War has seven lots on offer.

Act Of War yearlings on offer at the 2021 KZN Sale include –
