Sally Bruss’ Wind River Farm will be offering their first Cape Yearling Sale draft this year. The Tulbagh based farm are bringing a three strong consignment to the 2021 Cape Sale, with all three yearlings sired by G1 King’s Bishop Stakes winner, and proven G1 sire, Visionaire.
The latter, South Africa’s Leading First Season Sire of 2014-2015, and Leading Second Season Sire the following year, is the sire of 16 black type horses thus far, with Visionaire’s flag bearer being G1 Wilgerbosdrift SA Fillies Classic winner, and millionaire, Takingthepeace, and he is also the sire of such notable graded stakes winners as Africa Rising, Heaps Of Fun, Royal Pleasure and The Thinker.
Mistress Merlot (Lot 118) is a half-sister to two winners, with this filly’s four time winning dam Ventura a sister in blood to multiple stakes winner Adobe Pink. The well-bred Ventura, in turn, is out of G3 Prix du Cap runner up Vermilion -a full-sister to four graded stakes winners notably the G1 winners Nania and Red Ray.
Vermilion, a daughter of multiple champion sire Western Winter, is herself represented here by the Visionaire colt Victor Rail (Lot 119), with this colt, whose close relative Red Ray is one of the country’s more promising young stallions, closely inbred to outstanding stallion Gone West.
Yet another from this outstanding family is Visionaire’s daughter Scarlet Red (Lot 168). The latter, a half-sister to six winners including G3 Godolphin Barb Stakes third and seven time winner Mr Roy, is out of dual winning Rakeen mare Chambre’. The latter herself is a daughter of outstanding broodmare Naccarat, whose six stakes winning progeny include G1 Thekwini Stakes winner Nania and G1 Mercury Sprint hero Red Ray.
Further back, Scarlet Red’s relatives include Summer Cup winner Rudra and triple G1 victor Set Afire.
